Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declined an urgent listing for a petition in New Delhi, Delhi, on July 22, 2026, regarding police action against student demonstrators. The plea sought court intervention after the Delhi Police used tear gas and lathis on thousands of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET irregularities. During the proceedings, the counsel mentioned the police brutality and sought a hearing, to which Kant replied, "Please don't waste our time and your time. Your time is more valuable than ours." The counsel continued, "Students are seeking 3 very important prayers...first one is NEET free and fair exam...second is NTA..." Kant interjected with, "Thank you very much." When the counsel pressed further, saying, "Already I have collection of videos...if your lordships permit," Kant firmly shut down the request. "We are not interested in videos.
